Il Viaggio del Principe takes Carlo Gesualdo and the Este court of Ferrara in 1594 as the starting point for a journey through late-Renaissance musical experimentation. Giovanni Antonini brings together Il Giardino Armonico and the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks in a programme that moves between sacred polyphony, madrigal and instrumental music, setting Gesualdo’s highly chromatic language beside works by Emilio de’ Cavalieri, Cipriano de Rore, Giovanni Gabrieli, Luzzasco Luzzaschi, Alfonso Fontanelli and Claudio Monteverdi. The concert is presented in Munich by the BR under the title Gesualdo – Fürst der Leidenschaft. A pre-concert introduction is scheduled for 19:00.

Under the title Vivaldis harmonische Gärtner, Il Giardino Armonico returns to Hall in Tirol, where the ensemble made its Austrian debut in 1990. Giovanni Antonini leads from the flutes, joined by Stefano Barneschi, Giulio Padoin, Giancarlo De Frenza, Thomas Meraner, Michele Fattori, Michele Pasotti and Riccardo Doni. The sequence culminates in two vividly pictorial works, Il Gardellino and La tempesta di mare. An introductory talk with Giovanni Antonini is scheduled for 18:30.

Vivaldi – Concerti da camera explores the extraordinary variety of Antonio Vivaldi’s chamber writing for winds, strings and continuo. Across seven works, the programme moves between tightly woven ensembles and more concertante writing, with the flute at the centre of changing combinations of oboe, violin and bassoon. The sequence includes Il Gardellino and La tempesta di mare, two works in which Vivaldi turns instrumental colour into vivid musical imagery. Giovanni Antonini performs on recorders and leads Il Giardino Armonico. At the NFM the concert is presented in the ORLEN Main Hall with the stage in reversed configuration.

Giovanni Antonini and Il Giardino Armonico perform George Frideric Handel’s Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, the composer’s first Roman oratorio, written in 1707 to a libretto by Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili. Four allegorical figures — Bellezza, Piacere, Tempo and Disinganno — debate appearance and truth, youth and transience, pleasure and moral awakening. Handel turns the philosophical argument into vivid musical theatre through arias, recitatives and ensembles; among its best-known pages is “Lascia la spina”, music later reworked as “Lascia ch’io pianga” in Rinaldo. The cast is Anett Fritsch (Bellezza), Julia Lezhneva (Piacere), Lucile Richardot (Disinganno) and Krystian Adam (Tempo), with Giovanni Antonini conducting Il Giardino Armonico. The performance marks the work’s premiere at the Gran Teatre del Liceu; the theatre gives an approximate running time of 2 hours 30 minutes.
